This 7 Days Uganda wildlife and primates safari offers visitors to Uganda an opportunity to take part in several activities which among others includes chimpanzee tracking, gorilla trekking, wildlife viewing, launch cruising along the Kazinga channel, birding and a tour of the Batwa pygmies. This is a great itinerary for wildlife and nature lovers who are interested in exploring Uganda’s best national parks – Queen Elizabeth national park, Kibale national park and Bwindi impenetrable forest national park.
Main Activities :
Day 1: Transfer to Kibale National Park
A guide from Mission Africa Safaris will pick you up very early in the morning from your hotel after taking your breakfast. You will embark on a 3-4 hours drive to Kibale national park. On arrival at Fort Portal, you will have lunch and then go for a tour of this small but extremely beautiful town. Fort Portal town not only houses the headquarters of the Toro Kingdom, but is also located in strategic location and area with excellent climate and green scenery all year round. For its tranquility, the town is arguably the best place to live in Uganda. Dinner and overnight stay at Kyaninga Lodge or Primates lodge luxury tents (luxury and midrange) or Chimpanzee Guest House (budget).
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and Bigodi Swamp walk
You will head out early after breakfast to the Kibale National Park headquarters. Here, you will be briefed on the rules of tracking chimpanzee. tracking chimpanzee usually takes 3-5 hours. You will then go back to the starting point where our driver/guide will take you back to your hotel for lunch and a rest. In the evening, you will go out for a nature walk at the Bigodi swamp were you will spot birds of different species as well as monkeys and mangabeys. Dinner and overnight at Primates lodge (Luxury), Chimp’s nest (Midrange) and Chimpanzee Guest house (Budget).
Day 3: Head for Queen Elizabeth National Park for game drive at Ishasa section – Visit the Kyambura Gorge
You will wake up to sumptuous breakfast and head very early for Queen Elizabeth National Park. Queen Elizabeth national park is the most visited park in Uganda. On reaching the park, your will check in and go for your first uganda safari at the Ishasha section of the park which is famous for tree climbing lions. After Ishasa, head back to your lodge for lunch and rest. In the afternoon, you will visit one of the natural wonders of Uganda, the Kyambura gorge. The gorge houses a forest underneath which hosts several primates (Chimpanzee, Baboons and many monkeys). You will also spot rare birds, trees and plant species that have evolved to grow within the gorge. After visiting the Kyambura gorge, the guide will take you back to the lodge. Overnight stay at Mweya Safari Lodge (luxury), Ihamba Lodge / Park view lodge (mid-range) and Simba safari camp (budget).
Day 4: Second Game drive and boat cruise at the Kazinga Channel
You will wake very early to take breakfast at your lodge. Our guide will take you for your second game drive at a different location of the park. This early morning drive allows you to catch up with nocturnal animals and predators retreating back to their dens after the nights kill as well as early risers. Expect to spot animals like hippopotamus, hartebeests, leopard, buffaloes and a collection of endemic and migratory birds. You will then be taken back for lunch at your lodge and after having a rest be transferred to the Kazinga Channel for a boat cruise. The Kazinga Channel is one of Africa’s greatest birding sites. During the boat cruise you will spot most of the water dwelling mammals as well as lions, leopards, antelope and primates all drinking along the water banks. Dinner and overnight stay at Mweya Safari Lodge (luxury), Ihamba Lodge / Park view lodge (mid-range) and Simba safari camp (budget).
Day 5: Visit Maramagambo forest – Transfer to Bwindi national park
You will wake up to late breakfast and go for a walk around the park offices or alternatively be taken to Lake Katwe to see how locals mine salt. Afterwards you should be ready to tour Maramagambo forest before later heading for Bwindi national park. Maramagambo forest is famous for chimpanzee tracking but there is a lot more to see than chimps. There are forest dwelling mammals, red-tailed monkeys, pygmy antelopes and bat caves to be seen. You will also get to see the crater Lake Nyamasingiri and Lake Kyasanduka. You will then set off for Bwindi impenetrable forest park,check-in, rest and prepare for gorilla trekking the next day. Dinner and overnight at Chameleon Hill Lodge (luxury), Bakiga Lodge (Midrange) and Tarvan Trekkers Bwindi (Budget)
Day 6: Mountian Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest – Visit to the Batwa Pygmies
You should wake up for early breakfast before heading for the Bwindi forest park offices by 7:00 am in time for briefing. This briefing is very important as you will learn how to behave around the gorillas and what to expect and carry along during mountain gorilla tracking. Select your preferred gorilla family wisely taking into consideration your overall fitness. Some of the Uganda gorilla families are located or move deeper into the forest requiring more hours of tracking. Porters are available to help you with extra luggage. Head out for the gorilla trek and once you spot the apes, take as many photos as you can as you will be with them for only one hour. Watching mountain gorillas is amazing. You will see them play and roll around sometime coming close to you out of curiosity. Stay calm and always listen to what the warden and guides have to say.
After your one hour watching mountain gorillas, you will return back to the starting point where our guide will be waiting for you to head back to the lodge for lunch and rest. After resting, you will be taken to visit the Batwa pygmy community in the afternoon. The original home of the Batwa were in Bwindi forest before they were relocated to their current location. The Batwa had conflicts with the gorillas and other forest dwelling mammals and government decided that it was best to leave the park for mountain gorilla conservation. Several projects have been started up to ensure that the Batwa are well rehabilitated. Dinner and overnight at Chameleon Hill Lodge (luxury), Bakiga Lodge (Midrange) and Tarvan Trekkers Bwindi (Budget)
Day 7: Transfer back to Kampala for departure
This is the last day of the safari and you will wake up to early morning breakfast before being driven back to Kampala to catch your flight or to your hotel.

Minimum trekking gears you need:
You will need good hiking boots, thick cotton gloves and raincoat. Come along with light snacks and drinking water. Hiring porters is highly recommended to help you with any extra luggage and equipment.By hiring these porters, you give them a source of livelihood away from poaching park animals.
