A 3 days Ssese Islands tour is one of the best things to do while in Uganda. A collection of 84 islands make up what we know as the Ssese Islands. Located In Africa’s largest Lake Victoria in Kalangala District, the islands are 51kms from Entebbe town. The major activity in the island is fishing but soon being taken over by tourism. The Ssese islands are one of the well-known Uganda tourist attractions with the Bugala Island the largest and most visited. Other than Bugala, visitors can tour Bubembe Island, Nsirwe Island, Funve Island, Bugaba Island, Serinya Island, Kitobo Island, Kigungu, Ngamba and Kalangala where the government administrative offices are located.
The Ssese islands are characterized by pristine clear waters, white sandy beaches and virgin rainforest. The islands are located in quiet and sparsely populated areas which present quick get-way spots away from the sometimes stressful life in the main land and capital Kampala. Visitor on a Ssese Islands tour should expect to indulge in several activities like canoeing, beach games, swimming, nature walks, boat cruises, quad biking and off-course visiting the local fishing communities. The romantic atmosphere around the islands makes them the perfect place for holiday makers, couples, lovers and honeymooners. The islands are known for birdwatching and birders will be amazed by the unique species found in the islands. Some of the species found include Africa grey parrot, Turaco, African fish eagle, Jewel pygmy kingfisher, Palm nut vultures, hornbill, paradise flycatcher and barbets.
