This 10 Days Rwanda Uganda safari holiday involves seeing the best that Uganda and Rwanda has to offer. The tour starts in Rwanda or Uganda and involves several activities in the two countries among which include, chimpanzee tracking in Kibale forest national park, double gorilla trekking in Bwindi forest national park and the volcanoes national park. The tour also includes game drives at Queen Elizabeth National Park, golden monkey tracking, Kigali city tour, cultural visits to the Ibyi’iwacu and Batwa pygmies. Main Activities :
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale forest – Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park
Wake up early and take a quick cup of coffee before heading to the Kibale Forest National Park headquarters for briefing by the head guide about what to expect from your chimpanzee tracking adventure. Chimpanzee trekking usually takes 3-5 hours after which you will return to your lodge to take lunch and have rest. Our guide will then transfer you to Queen Elizabeth national park in the evening. The journey to Queen Elizabeth national park takes 2 hours. Overnight and dinner will be at Mweya Safari Lodge (Luxury option), Ihamba Lodge / Park view lodge (Mid-range) and Simba safari camp (Budget).
Day 3: Morning game drive and boat cruise at the Kazinga Channel
You will set off early with your packed breakfast from the hotel for an early morning game drive to spot the early rising wildlife that include predators and other nocturnal mammals as they retreat to their dens. You will spot buffaloes, hippos, leopard, lions as well as early morning resident and migratory birds. Once you are done with the game drive, head back to the hotel for lunch and rest. After the rest, our guide will transfer you to the Kazinga Channel for a boat cruise. The Channel is collection point for most of the park animals and is one of the best spots to see wildlife in Africa. It is also one of the best places to go for bird watching in Africa. After your Uganda wildlife safari, dinner and overnight stay at Mweya Safari Lodge (luxury option), Ihamba Lodge / Park view lodge (Mid-range) and Simba safari camp (Budget).
Day 4: Second game drive to the Ishasha sector – Transfer to Bwindi national park
After yesterdays wildlife viewing, you should be ready for another final game drive in the great Queen Elizabeth national park. This time you will go to the Ishasha sector which is famous around the world for tree climbing lions. After enough of the game drive, you will head for Bwindi impenetrable forest with lunch taken en-route. You should arrive at Bwindi impenetrable forest late evening in time for an early rest and ready for gorilla trekking the next day. Dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge / The 5 Volcanoes Lodge ( Luxury), Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge / Da Vinci Lodge (Mid-range) and The Garden Place Hotel (Budget).
Day 5: Gorilla tracking in Uganda – Visiting the Batwa Pygmies
Wake up very early and take breakfast after-which head to the park for briefing on gorilla tracking. briefing for gorilla trekking takes place at 7:00 am and is conducted by the head park guide. It is a compulsory to attend gorilla tracking briefly which is designed to share with you relevant information that will guide you throughout the activity. It is also during the briefing that you will get to choose which gorilla family to track. You will have a choice of 11 habituated gorilla families found in Bwindi impenetrable forest.
Gorilla trekking is challenging and involves moving deep into the forest where you will pass through thick bushy shrubs, steep areas and muddy ground. However you will be rewarded with one hour of gorilla watching which is one of the best wildlife experiences. Listen to instructions from the guides while with the gorillas. After your one hour watching gorillas is done, you should head to the starting point to meet our Mission Africa Safaris guide who will take you back to hotel for lunch and rest. In the evening head out for a visit to the Batwa pygmy community. The Batwa are the original inhabitants of the Bwindi impenetrable forest but have been relocated away from the park to gazette it for mountain gorilla conservation. Dinner and accommodation at Chameleon Hill Lodge (luxury), Bakiga Lodge (Midrange) and Tarvan Trekkers Bwindi (Budget).
Day 6: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi – Relaxation, Boat ride and visit to the Lake islands
You will wake up early to a beautiful breakfast and be ready for a transfer to lake Bunyonyi. This is one of the most beautiful places in Uganda, with a beautiful lake and a collection of so many bird species – A must visit Uganda destination! Once you arrive, you will visit Lake Bunyonyi and have a boat-ride in the evening along the lake. Dinner and accommodation at Bunyonyi overland Resort (budget), Bunyonyi safari camp / Bunyonyi Birdnest (Midrange) and Bunyonyi resort (luxury).
Day 7: Transfer to Volcanoes national park
You will wake up to a beautiful breakfast and be ready to hit the road. You will cross back to Rwanda and take lunch en-route. Enjoy the amazing countryside and landscape of both Uganda and Rwanda during your journey – Take photos and ask for short stops if something catches your attention. You will notice that most of the locals live a modest life but always happy especially the children along the way. You should reach in time to have an early rest and ready for gorilla trekking the next day. Day 8: Visit Rwanda Gorillas – Iby’iwacu cultural village tour
Briefing for gorilla trekking takes place at 7:00 am by a head park guide at the park headquarters. You will be given an opportunity to select form 10 gorilla families during a Rwanda gorilla safari. Porters are available for hire should you need one. Once you are done with briefing, you can then head to the forest for gorilla tracking. Gorilla trekking in Rwanda like anywhere else can be challenging but the experience of watching mountain gorillas in the wild is indescribable. You will always remember the time you spent with the gorilla family. Always stay calm and do not make sudden movements. Once you finish the activity, head back to the starting point to meet the guide who will drive you back to the lodge for lunch and a rest. In the evening, prepare to visit the Iby’iwacu cultural village near the Volcanoes national park. Day 9: Golden Monkey Tracking – visiting Lake Burera and Ruhondo
After early morning breakfast, you will set off to the Volcanoes national park offices for briefing on golden monkey tracking in Rwanda. Hire a porter if you wish and go out in search of the cute golden monkeys. You will eventually spot them on tree tops and branches with some coming down to feed on the ground. Once done tracking the golden monkeys, you should go back to the lodge for lunch and rest. Later in the evening, our Mission Africa Safaris guide will take you to visit the twin Lakes Ruhondo and Burera. Dinner and accommodation at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge / The 5 Volcanoes Lodge ( Luxury), Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge / Da Vinci Lodge (Mid-range) and The Garden Place Hotel (Budget).
Day 10: Transfer to back Kigali
On this day, you will wake up at your own time. Have breakfast and check out of the hotel for the trip back to Kigali. In-case you didn’t tour the city of Kigali on Day 1 due to late arrival or other time constraints, this is the day to do so. The company guide will take you to tour the city, the Kings palace, the Gisozi genocide memorial site and local markets. The Kigali city tour will give you a chance to buy some gifts from the local art and crafts shops. Once done, the driver will take you to the airport for departure or to your hotel in case you are still in Rwanda.
